Kick Stand

Somewhere between Serial Numbers 34,000 and 40,000 Kaypro began preparing to add kickstands to their machines. By about 50,000 they were regularly installing the kick stands on the machines. (I suspect that Kaypro changed to factory kickstands on the KII about the same time that they released the K4 and K10.

Examples

Here are three examples of the feet/kickstand arrangement:

No Kickstand Note that the foot is towards the front and outside
Transition to a Kickstand Note the there are two screw holes and they are moved back and in
With Kickstand Uses the same holes as the transition

Note that the Kick Stand, Model Number and Serial Number are all part of the same piece of sheet metal so you can't swap parts and end up with a mixed machine.

Pre-81-003

You will see from the images below that the Pre-81-003 (I sometimes refer to them as 81-001 and 81-002) KII machines also seemed to have an option to add a kick stand though I am not aware of a factory kick stand being installed on them.

After Market Kickstands

The one kickstand that looks like the factory kickstand if you don't look close is from ICP. Here is the advertisment for it and a picture of one on a machine. It is clear from the picture that it is very different from the factory kickstand.
