Kaypro II No Model Number

This early marketing photo has black numerical keys.

Notice that this machine has a white bordered power switch. Before serial #20,000 there were many different switches used. See Early power switches for detailed information.

Memory:	64K
Disk Storage:	Two Double Density Single Sided Tandem floppy drives (195K)
Ports:	Modem/RS232C Interface, Centronics parallel printer interface
Keyboard:	Detachable full typewriter keyboard with 14 key numeric pad and 4 cursor control keys. Upper and lower case.

These were the first machines produced by Kaypro. They include the "Kaycomp" Machines.

News

"Before production got under way June 15 ... The first units were shipped under the name of Kaycomp II, but the product has been renamed Kaypro II because of the protests of a Pasadena software manufacturer with the name of K-Comp." (San Diego Evening Times, September 17, 1982)

Vertical to Horizontal Drives

	The original Vertical Drive arrangement. Also the contrast knob is on the front.
	Early on they changed to a Horizontal Drive arrangment with the contrast knob on the rear.

Power cord connectors

	The original machines had the power cord coming directly out of the back of the machine near the power switch.
	The cord was moved to a plate on the lower edge of the back.
	The plate was replaced with a EM noise supressing plug. Requiring a removable cord to be used for all later Kaypro machines.

Labels

These units have 2 labels.

	This version only has Non-linear Systems listed as the brand.
	The later version as the addition of KAYPRO to the label and "Made in the U.S.A." under the serial number box.
There is a lot of back and forth between the two labels as you go through the serial numbers.

Handle Mount Color

There are a few black handle mounts amoung the earliest machines.

	An example of the standard chrome plated handle mount.

This model used the Mainboard 81-110.
