Dual processor models announced Double your operating systems, double you fun - get two operating systems for one machine! Kaypro has announced new versions of the II and 4 which can run both CP/M and MS-DOS operating systems.

Calling the new versions, Kaypro II Plus 88 and Kaypro 4 Plus 88, these models utilize 16-bit co-processor boards which allow selection of two different CPU chips, the 8-bit Z-80 or the 16-bit 8088. The CPU (Central Processing Unit) is the main brain of any computer. Plus 88 models give users two brains with which to work.

The Z-80 chip runs all of the CP/M-80 software and provides 247K of formatted storage. The computer operates normally under CP/M in this mode, except that the extra memory can act as a third RAM drive. This offers users extremely quick input/output even faster than a hard disk, because all the activity takes place within the chip itself as opposed to the drive.

The Intel 8088 chip runs MS-DOS and gives users the ability to run many IBM-type programs and increases the storage to 256K. Under MS-DOS, there is no third drive, all memory is utilized by this particular operating system. The computer will automatically recognize an IBM PC format diskette while in MS-DOS, but cannot run any software that uses graphics or IBM ROM calls.

The Plus 88 models are shipped with the standard software package, plus one CP/M-80 to MS-DOS Adapter diskette and one MS-DOS v. 1.25 System diskette. The enhanced II model is expected to be priced slightly under $2000 and the 4 will sell for $2195.
