Engineers in the research and development department at Kaypro Corp. have produced the first prototype for a new line of lap-top computers, and it is attracting the attention of potential buyers in the United States and Europe.

Joseph W. Marcello, vice president of sales for the local firm, said the first prototype minature computer was sent to the Federal Office Expo in Washington, D.C., on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, engineers at the firm are set to produce about 20 additional prototypes of the new model 2020 lap-top computer, which will be unveiled in the nation's capital this week.

Marcello said Kaypro already has received calls for the new model from customer bases in Europe, Oklahoma and Washington.

The model 2020 - an advanced version of Kaypro's 2000+ lap-top model - will be offered on a limited distribution basis for now, he added.
